Site Director East Bay World Language Project
The Berkeley Language Center (BLC) is seeking a Site Director for the East World Language Project, part of a statewide program of outreach to and professional develop of foreign language teachers at the elementary and secondary levels. The Site Director coordinates and implements all the activities associated with the site including: 1) recruiting members for a Leadership Team composed of world and English language teachers from Alameda, Contra Costa, and Solano Counties; 2) coordinating the design and implementation of professional learning programs that focus on enhancing participants’ content knowledge, pedagogical skills, and leadership qualities; 3) directing an outreach program targeted at “lower-performing” schools to optimize student learning and enhance teachers’ ability to teach English Learners and students with low literacy and academic skills, 4) working with East Bay schools to encourage the development of heritage language programs, and 5) designing and implementing a professional learning program for Leadership Team members that enhances their competence in program planning, implementation and evaluation. This is an Academic Coordinator 1 position at 30%, salary commensurate with experience based on an annual 100% range of $58K to $76K.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of at least one world language, BA/BS by the hire date, MA desirable, minimum of 5 years of teaching experience, experience in K-12 education, knowledge of language pedagogy, California World Language Content Standards, Second Language Acquisition theory, instructional unit and lesson design, multimedia skills including maintenance of a website and the use of on-line communication tools such as Edmodo, and professional/adult learning theory. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to successfully collaborate with others to attain desirable goals.
