BWLP Professional Learning Series, 2015 – 2016

Teachers of World Languages, including teachers of English Learners and Heritage Languages, are invited to participate in the professional learning programs, Foundations of Effective Language Teaching 1, 2, or 3. The program will be offered on five Saturdays: September 26, October 24, December 5, 2015; and January 30, February 27, 2016. (An extra session is planned for March 12, 2016). All meetings are from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm at the Berkeley Language Center, B-40 Dwinelle Hall, on the UC Berkeley campus.

Foundations 1: World Languages and Common Core Literacy (no prerequisite)

Foundations 2: Building Thematic Units for World Languages and Common Core Literacy (Foundations 1 required)
Theme for 2015-16: Caribbean Quest
*  Advocate for World Languages for the Common Core
*  Instruct in the target language using authentic resources
*  Create real-world, culturally relevant thematic units
*  Infuse tech tools to engage all students

Foundations 3: Extending Thematic Units for World Languages and Common Core Literacy (Foundations 2 required)
Theme for 2015-16: Caribbean Quest
*  Leverage advocacy for World Languages for the Common Core
*  Increase instruction in the target language using authentic resources
*  Embed real-world, culturally relevant resources in thematic units
*  Infuse diverse tech tools to engage all students
*  Expand leadership and presentational skills

The cost for each course is $350.
Credit: 4 CEUs are available from Stanford University (home of the CWLP) for an additional cost of $92.

Since our programs are authorized by the State and Federal Governments, you may wish to request funds for Common Core professional development, or Title I (Disadvantaged Learners), Title II-Part A (Professional Development), or Title III (English Learners).

The application deadline is September 11, 2015, and payment is due by September 18, 2015.
