Ensuring Assessment Use: Linking Design to Actions

by Yukiko Watanabe, Center for Teaching and Learning University of California, Berkeley

Student learning outcomes assessment provides college foreign language educators with an opportunity to communicate and ensure the value of foreign language education. It is also an opportunity to collectively focus on meaningful issues and important concerns related to language learning, pedagogy, and curriculum. This hands-on workshop will engage participants in applying use- and user-oriented assessment designs that will lead to actionable results. Using a case example from a foreign language program, the facilitator will walk you through the various steps involved in outcomes assessment and provide strategies for designing assessment for your program. If you have program-level (or course-level) learning outcomes/goals statements and/or an assessment plan (a draft will be sufficient), please bring them to the workshop.
