|---|---|

| What’s your name? | Wie heißt du / Wie heißen Sie? |
| My name is Anton. What’s yours? | Ich heiße Anton. |
| Nice to meet you. | Freut mich, Sie kennenzulernen.. |
| Thank you. | Dankeschön! |
| I was born in Germany, but now I live in Berkeley. | Ich bin in Deutschland geboren, aber jetzt lebe ich in Berkeley. |
| One, two, three, four, five | Eins, wei, drei, vier, fünf |
| Go Bears! | Bären vor! |
Is it difficult to translate any of these expressions into German? Why?
-
Go Bears does not directly translate into German - the cultural context is missing here, the reference to a sports team rather than an animal. These sport metaphors and encouragements are not part of popular culture / language use as much as in American English.
