Room Reservations

The Berkeley Language Center offers a number of classrooms and computer labs for reservation. Some rooms offer multimedia equipment, such as region-independent DVD players, multi-format video tape decks, and large-screen video projectors, as well as video-conferencing equipment for distance learning (DL) classes. Others double as computer labs, offering the opportunity for instructors to hold classes wherein each student has his/her own workstation. Rooms are listed in the menu at right. Each room’s page has photos and a description of the room as well as the room’s calendar and a form which registered, logged-in users may fill out to make a reservation request.

BLC rooms may be requested for any foreign language or foreign-language-related class or activity (e.g., language clubs, EAP meetings, etc). Preference will be given to requests that utilize equipment in the rooms that is not available in general assignment classrooms, e.g., video-conferencing equipment for DL classes. Requests for single classes are on a first-come, first-reserved basis. Reservations for rooms for an entire semester may be made at any time, but in most cases will be confirmed only two weeks before the beginning of the term; therefore, instructors are encouraged to reserve general assignment classrooms in case their BLC reservation cannot be honored.

Instructors are responsible for ensuring that BLC rooms are locked after their classes are over and that equipment (e.g., the data projector) has been turned off. Instructors using BLC classrooms on multiple occasions or in off-hours may obtain a key to the classroom.

No food or drink is allowed in classrooms or computer labs, and instructors are expected to enforce this policy when meeting in BLC rooms.
