The Berkeley Language Center, through the support of the Title VI area studies centers, brings to campus each semester three-four renowned scholars in the fields of second language acquisition theory, sociolinguistics, and language pedagogy. We provide a schedule of this semester’s speakers, as well as a list of previous lectures.

Each year the BLC is able to offer research fellowships to six graduate students and course release support to two lecturers to pursue independent research projects or curricular development projects. Application forms are available here.

The BLC Newsletter, Language Teaching at Berkeley, is published semiannually. The current issue and all past issues are available here in PDF format.

In the spring of 2004 a group of ten faculty, all active in efforts to create a multidisciplinary concentration in language ecology, participated as guest lecturers in Professor Dan Slobin’s Psycholinguistics course. We present here the syllabus, reading lists, and links to audio recordings of the course lectures.

The Dwinelle Computer Research Facility in 310 Dwinelle maintains resident workstations and drop-in facilities for faculty computing projects.

The BLC provides up to $400.00 in travel support to lecturers who plan to present a paper related to language teaching at a conference. Application forms are available here.
