Meaning and Feeling: The Semantics and Pragmatics of Affect

How does language make us feel? Both when we use a language, and when we respond to the language used by others? What part of meaning is felt, and what part of feeling is meant? What feelings can be talked about, expressed, and felt in and through a particular language, and how is it done? In this talk, I raise some basic
questions about affectivity and language as both semiotic and embodied experiential phenomena. I will describe some exploratory research that seeks to develop a
framework for analyzing the language of feeling and the feeling of a language.
