Designing and Reading Multimodal Texts: Modes, Media, Knowledge and Meaning
by Gunther Kress, Professor, Institute of Education, University of London
The increasing intensity of multimodality in texts of all kinds is forcing us to look newly and more seriously at modes other than those of speech and writing, in an attempt to understand their contribution to meaning, and their role in the shaping of knowledge. So in my talk I will focus on the issue of modes and affordances, of media and their facilities, and suggest that we need to think newly about issues such as authorship and text making, reading and design, knowledge and meaning.
